Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2023

"Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" wants to earn a spot in the "so bad it's good" category, showing you what Winnie the Pooh would look like if he became a sadistic killer alongside his face-eating friend, Piglet.

This British production, which opens in 1,500 U.S. theaters this week, aims to put a damper on childhood nostalgia, which is reflected here in what happens to poor Christopher Robin (Nikolai Leon) - he returns home from college to find that his childhood buddies have become murderers who hate human beings. Before the flashy, forensic opening credits straight out of a 2000s horror movie, they commit their first murder.

But while this may come as a shock to anyone offended by the concept, it's not the perversion of A.A. Milne's work that's the problem. As both a horror and a comedy, "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey" has no rhythm with either, and it's too weak to merit a curious look.

Writer/director/editor Rhys Frake-Waterfield wants you to "turn your brain off," as the cinematic adage goes, but that's hard to do when his poorly lit sequences constantly force you to squint to decipher his nighttime terror in the 100 Acre Wood.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2023 Full Review

Look at the title of this movie and what it offers, does it really make you have high expectations? This is one of those movies that tries to ruin your childhood by using childish elements to make it even scarier, and yes it worked, I have a few things to say about this movie, and I want to start by talking about the plot, which actually does not exist...

A long time ago, when Christopher Robin was just a child, he met friends in the forest, animals that could talk and play with Christopher! Until one day Christopher Robin became a man and had to leave his friends behind and alone, and from then on, things only got worse, Pooh and his friends panicked, they were alone and hungry, they had to EAT one of their friends to not starve, and they promised never to talk again, and also... revenge for the humans and, especially, for Christopher Robin...

The film begins with a terrifying opening scene, we see Christopher, several years later, seeing his "friends", who apparently, are not so friendly anymore, Piglet and Pooh, crazed serial killers who want revenge on Christopher for leaving them alone when they needed him most... We see a group of girls, with literally no character development, go to a cabin in the woods to have fun and yes, Pooh and Piglet are there to kill and kill, in short, that's basically it, and their mission is to kill the two "not friendly friends"...

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2023

The movie has some VERY crazy killing scenes, very gory, we see cars going over heads, a chase scene in a pool, whipping with... hair? Yes, there are violent scenes, but that's it, all this movie does is chase scenes that end with the character being killed by the bear or the "little" pig. And this movie may work for some, but honestly, it's not worth watching.

I was shocked when I found out that this movie had a huge budget of 13 million dollars, which might make you think that this is not much for a movie, but if we compare this movie to M3GAN, which had a budget of 12 million dollars, we see a HUGE difference, even though Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey had a higher budget, the movie still looks like a fan movie, a movie that was not even made by professionals and that's how I felt when I was watching the movie.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey Trailer

The performances are terrible, horrible, no one works, Christopher Robin might be the "least worst", he's not good, but he manages to be good sometimes, but very bad actors and actresses try to carry a movie when they can't even do that.

Oh! there are also good things in this movie, starting with the photography and cinematography, it's pretty good, it gives tension, the big dark scenarios are really present and I should also underline the score, which is actually very good, each music fits the respective scene and it works very well, but yeah apart from that I don't have more praise to give to this movie...

We can see and understand the trauma of Pooh, who sometimes has flashbacks of Christopher promising him that he would never abandon him, but he did! And Pooh is not happy and wants revenge, Piglet is just Pooh's "worker", he has no development, he just kills and kills.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood And Honey is an absurd adaptation that tries to change the total purpose of something, massive and crazy murders can't carry a horror movie with a terrible plot and very bad performances.
